The term “colorful” conjures disparate images of power rangers, jarring colors, and, the entire spectrum of the rainbow in my mind. Growing up as a child in a little red dot where different races come to mingle together, one cannot help but to associate colors with cultures. The Chinese strongly believes that Red brings about prosperity, fortune, and is often coined by the term, auspicious. Meanwhile the Hindus celebrate Diwali (the festival of lights) with imperative Rangoli decorations - an art form native to India, Nepal and Bangladesh - made using bright colored powder or sand. As a matter of fact, my inherent distaste for colors cumulated over the years as I a) got sucked into the world of minimalism and b) grew tired of the constant avoidance of looking inappropriately dressed like a red / green packet.
Yet time and again, i find myself getting sucked back into the world of colours. (Never ultramarine blue nor tawdry fluorescents though. Yikes!) After all, a monotonous wardrobe can be a little mundane at times. Peculiarly when your life is dreary enough.
A pop of colour can add youth and playfulness.
Stay tuned for the film!
